QRBeam allows you to create your own QR codes and to send data to your smartphone via QR codes.
- No Internet, WiFi or Bluetooth connexion required.
- Send web links, notes, contacts or any kind of text.
- Embed SMS in QR code and send them easily via your phone.
- Just drag a contact from your Address book to create its QR code.
- Save QR codes as BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG, TIFF, PDF or EPS.
How do I use QRBeam?
Just copy/paste or write any URL or text in the URL/text field box or enter a phone number and a text in the SMS box. Click the “Generate” button. That’s all.
For contacts, just drag a contact from your address book and drop it on the blue zone below the text field.
The max number of characters you can enter varies from 800 to 2400 depending on the error correction level selected. Contacts pictures or photos won’t be taken into account when generating the QR code.
To be able to enter text in the URL/Text field or the SMS field, be sure that the corresponding checkbox is selected.
Can I choose the error correction level of the QR code?
Since QRBeam 1.2, you can choose one of the four error correction levels (L, M, Q, H) available in the QR code standard.
Do I need to be connected to Internet to use QRBeam?
No. QRBeam includes the libqrencode library to generate QR codes.
OK, I’ve got this fancy QR code on my screen, now what?
Now, you need a QR code reader on your smartphone to decode it. There are plenty of them available for iOS, Android, BlackBerry or Symbian, commercial or free. In addition, you can save the QR code as a picture (JPG, PNG, BMP, TIFF, EPS or PDF formats) for later use.
What is this 2400 characters limit for?
In theory, a QR code with the lowest level of error correction can include more than 4000 characters. In practice, the maximum number of characters in a QR code depends on a lot of things including the smartphone camera, the QR code reader app, etc. The 2400 characters limits (for ECC level L) has been selected after several tests using Android and iOS phones and several Reader apps.
QR generation doesn’t work
QRbeam won’t generate a QR code if the number of characters exceed the limit or several contacts are dragged at once, so be sure to check that..
If it’s still not working, please use the Contact support form to give me some information about the problem and I will look into it as soon as possible.
I can generate a QR code, but my reader won’t decode it
Performance of QR code reader may varies a lot depending on the reader algorithm, the smartphone camera, etc. Try another one to see if the problem persists.
